An £8 million refurbishment project has recently been completed on York Art Gallery - and Contego are pleased to have played a part in protecting this magnificent building for future generations.
Like many city-centre buildings, the gallery was very attractive to pigeons who regularly "painted" the roof and walls with their droppings. The building itself dates from 1879, and is a Grade 2 listed building, so we needed to pigeon-proof the roof and ledges, without causing any change to the building's appearance.
To do this we used a bird-gel which we fixed in place along the ledges inside low profile dishes (see pic) which are invisible from ground level. "Bird Free", as it is known, is effective yet unobtrusive - and it is harmless to the birds.
Birds see ultraviolet light, so when they approach the dishes the gel appears to be on fire, and they naturally steer well clear.
Contego Aero are specialists in difficult access situations, including rope access. Our technicians hold CSCS cards,
IPAF powered access certificates and PASMA cards so we can tackle any situation.
If you are having bird problems on your building give us a call. We will undertake a free site survey and produce an action plan to find the solution for you.
As with all pest control issues it is important not to delay - it is best to bird-proof a site well before the breeding season commences. With this in mind Contego Aero are offering 10% discount on all bird proofing installations ordered before Christmas. All our proofing systems are backed by a 2 year installation guarantee.
Many thanks to "Bird Free" for the use of their photo of the gel dish.
