Costa Coffee, Britain's largest chain of coffee shops, have received poor health inspectors reports for 23 of their premises.
According to the 'Daily Mail', they had more stores rated as "less than satisfactory" than any other High Street coffee chain.
Problems reported by health inspectors ranged from a deadly bacteria to filthy backrooms with infestations of cockroaches, rats and mice - including a dead mouse found inside one of their London shops.
Costa’s managing director Jim Slater insisted that hygiene failings were acted on immediately, adding that the chain's 1,755 stores are checked regularly.
Regular checks are important - winter is approaching and rodents become 'braver' as outside food supplies become scarcer.
